Except for water, you will have no food or drinks for 12 hours prior to your appointment Just prior to your treatment, you will take medication in tablet form, a mild sedative that will relieve nervous tension. You cannot drive, so arrange for a companion to drop you off at your appointment.
Treatment only begins once you are relaxed, and we will offer another tablet should you require more sedation An assistant will be with you at all times, and your pulse and blood pressure will be monitored constantly.

Your companion will escort you from the office. You will need to take the rest of the day off from work. You will have little or no memory of your appointment. Use caution and ask for assistance when needed, since diminished balance may affect your abilities (e.g., with stairs).
 The Wand is a revolutionary new computer controlled local anesthesia injection system that can provide a more comfortable and effective anesthetic delivery.
Whether you get nervous about the injection or not, The Wand allows a more predicably confortable injection, especially in the more sensitive areas such as the palate or front of the mouth.
It also allows the use of less anesthetic and at certain times, techniques can be used to eliminate the collateral numbing of your face, tongue and lips. The needle is not what causes the main discomfort of an injection. It is the pressure and volume of the fluid going into the tissues.
The microprocessor inside The Wand automatically compensates for different tissue densities. The anesthetic is delivered at a constant pressure and volume that's typically below the threshold of pain. The computer also provides a flow of anesthetic directly ahead of the needle. This numbs the site of insertion and develops a "pathway of anesthesia" so you hardly feel the needle at all. The Wand delivers the anesthetic at an optimal flow rate for a confortable injection every time.

Can I still choose sedation dentistry if I'm breast feeding?
It is safe to breast feed and have sedation dentistry. Just follow these simple steps: - Express and save breast milk the day before the treatment appointment.
- Express and discard the day of the treatment appointment. Use the milk saved from the day before.
- Resume normal breast feeding the day after your appointment.
Will I be asleep when the treatment is performed? No. You will still be awake and responsive, but you will also be sedated and very relaxed. Is sedation safe? Yes. In addition to ensuring you remain awake, but relaxed, during treatment, an assistant will always be with you and your pulse and blood pressure will be monitored constantly. What are the after-effects of the sedation? First, you will have little or no memory of your appointment for the rest of the day. Also, your balance will be temporarily diminished, which will mean no work for the rest of the day and the possible need for assistance with stairs. These are all temporary after-effects.
